Course Information

Course Description

Education is not merely about transferring information. It is about contextualizing that information in the real life experiences of the learners, and in relation with the experiences of other learners…It is the relationships among people and sharing contextualized experiences that create emergent knowledge that is the basis of education”~ Mark Federman

This course will explore how 21st Century Tools are needed to prepare 21st Century Learners. Participants will use technology in a real world context to share knowledge, network with others and communicate. All comfort levels of technology are welcome.

In this course participants will:

  • learn about emerging research in using digital media to impact teaching and learning
  • explore using real world tools such as vodpodcasting,  photo-editing, wikis and digital mapping in a real world context
  • work collaboratively to construct knowledge, social network and use emerging technology to communicate information
  • actively use 21st Century Learning Skills to meet their knowledge needs

The course is designed and approved by Cardinal Stritch to be repeatable, so participants can take the course multiple times. This is due the evolving nature of digital media. Each year the conference will focus on slightly different technologies and will provide learners with opportunities to learn new skills.

Participants have the option of taking the course for two graduate credits from Cardinal Stritch University. Registration for credit will be handled onsite on the second day of the conference (Tuesday, July 29th, 2008). The cost of the credits is $300. Cardinal Stritch accepts personal checks and major credit cards.
